Get driving directions between multiple records, map out sales regions, and see Google map’s street view inside SugarCRM.
I sat with Epicom engineer, Aaron Wine, yesterday morning and he gave me a DEMO of the latest and greatest Epicom Google Maps integration. Prior to the DEMO he mentioned that the changes were awesome looking, but after seeing it… it’s more than just great looking. The functionality of the integration more than doubled over the past year and pulls more of Google’s map features directly into Sugar’s interface.
One of the biggest updates was adding driving directions between multiple points on the map. Users can choose to get driving directions, by simply clicking on a Lead, Contact, or Account on the map. They can also choose an endless number of points or records on the map. So if you have a driver needing to make shipments to several different clients, you can route all of his stops in one route.
From the left sidebar, you can also rearrange each point to change the order of stops along the route. As in the earlier version of our Google Maps integration, the point bubble can be fully customized to pull in fields from the Lead, Contact, or Account record. However, we added in a “Add to directions” link to add that point to the route in the directions sidebar. Also, the Lead, Contact, or Account name in the bubble links to that record in Sugar.
Another update was the ability to see the street view from anywhere on the map. This is another Google feature that was pulled into the integration.
When creating a map, users can now define certain areas and color code the shaded areas. For example, some companies have different sales regions. They can define these different regions by drawing points on the map. Once saved, the newly defined area will be present on the map when routing directions.
For Aaron, this has been a really fun project to work on, especially when clients continue to think of new features to build onto the integration. For example, adding the ability to route walking directions on the map.
